Chapters 1-5 Greener Grass When reading the back of Greener Grass I was immediately drawn to the book. Hoping it or another book would be the one I was assigned, I was glad to find that it was the one I was put with. As our novel study group started reading the beginning I was pleased with how it was starting off. Although, as the book carried on, instead of enjoying and being drawn to it I was just reading what was written and not taking it in. Even though there were some moments where I was interested, the story wasn’t seeming to be moving on anymore. It was at a standstill of little changes. I felt that it was about time that some drastic move, action, or discovery was put in place. So I started to smile when a certain something popped up that would definitely start a serious change....... but it will have to wait in chapter nine. In the beginning Kathleen (the main character and the oldest sibling of 14 years of age), her younger brother Jack, the youngest sibling Annie, and her mom (Mam) had to watch as her dad (Da) set off for the summer once again to work for the money that would keep their family going. Just before leaving her Da announced that their Mam was pregnant with the fourth child. During her last pregnancy the child had died at birth. This meant extra work for the siblings to keep things easier on Mam knowing the condition she was now in. Mam is very religious, as well as the rest of the family, but Mam truly goes above and beyond with her ways. So far their potato crop is growing on the good side, bit they know that there is still quite the way to go. Jack was told out of the blue that he was to work for the known crazy lady in pay of eggs everyday of the summer. Her name was Lizzie Plunket and she could do and knew things what almost no one quite did or could. Kathleen works as a maid from sunrise to sunset at the rich Lord Fraser’s large house with three floors and thirty rooms. One of the teenage boys their, Tom, has definitely caught her eye and she has obviously gone crazy over him to a ridiculous high. Although he does sounds like an alright guy, he is a little bit of a jerk and she seemed oblivious to the rude comment he had suggested about someone else, someone who has probably worked harder than he ever has. So though it may seem that the book is going alright , and maybe you would think it is, but it doesn’t quite fit into the ‘wow’ category. I can read almost any genre of books and be interested, but it needs to be one of those books where you’re up until 3 o’clock in the morning because you can’t put it down. And this book isn’t matching up to that. But I’m sure that it will get better throughout the rest of the book.
Second Entry 'Greener Grass' has definitely started getting interesting. Although it took the book a while to get to the point, I think it will play out nicely now and finally start pulling me into it. Now I am able to predict where the story is leading to because something is actually happening. Right now I am getting to that section where you know something is on it's last string before it breaks off and starts running with it. Since Hanna is done the book already I've already heard her thoughts and how she feels about the outcome of the book and it sounds like it end up being a strong story. Third EntryNow that the great potato famine has hit and everyone is running out of money, food, and time I wonder how anyone is going to recover from this and be able to get there lives back to normal again. Although after reading that Lizzie Plunket said it wasn't over yet and there is worse to come, I'm strarting to think that it isn't going to get any better, only worse. I think that Kathleen's family will end up falling the hardest when the 'worst' of it all hits because her mom (mam) is pregnant, her dad (da) isn't making enough money, Kathleen lost her job, which was the main thing keeping their family going, and Lizzie Plunket can only pay Jack an egg a day. Her mam said that hope is the best thing in times like these and to never give up on it. I think that even if they do end up in the lowest of situations their will-power will keep them going. Then again, maybe not. Maybe times will get too hard and something might cause their family to split in some way or another. Response to Ms. Carlyle #1First off, I admit to not have een reading my peers thoughts on the book and our asignments, so I agree with having to begin collaboration more between eachother. I know that i do need tomake some revisions. Especially on our last assignment (the one you just commented on) because now as I have gotten even father into the book my opinions have changed for several of my answers. Especially for the antagonist post. As for the alliteration that i guess none have us have found an example for (including moi), there probably is a form of alliteration in the novel somewhere. What probably has happened is that I have skipped one that I didn't realize was one. So when i find one a will add it to the assignment.

I really enoyed that book! It got a lot better farther into it (thank goodness). Now I am really wondering how and when Kathleen will meet up with the rest of her family, if she does at all. Or is Mick and her going to start a realationship? Will the Lynch boys realize she isn't actually dead and go after her again?....
